“Towards A Modernist Organ”

This DVD, released by Fugue State Films, features Custodian David Butterworth playing the mighty Binns Organ of the Albert Hall, along with visits to Wollaton Hall and St Mary’s Church.

modernistThe music ranges from the 16th century at Wollaton Hall to first recordings of recent, accessible Danish pieces at St Mary’s, along with favourites such as Bach’s Passacaglia and Fugue and Parry’s Fantasia and Fugue in G.

A special feature in common with the Priory CD of the Binns is Naji Hakim’s “Fanfare for Nottingham”, written to celebrate the centenary of the Binns organ, commissioned by Nottingham City Council and the Binns Organ Trust, and dedicated to David.

The DVD comes in an attractive presentation package which also includes a CD and a full colour 16-page booklet, and is available now at the Albert Hall, the Nottingham Tourism Centre on Smithy Row, directly from David Butterworth, or from Fugue State Films.
