Richard Hills, Patron of the Binns Organ Trust, makes a welcome return for our Popular Recital. He starts with what the Binns organ could be said to have been built for: a transcription, in this case of Roger Quilter’s evergreen Children’s Overture. Renowned cinema organists Quentin Maclean and Frederic Curzon make an appearance as do two highly successful “crossover” artists, equally at home in the cinema or the cathedral: Percy Whitlock and Norman Cocker. Two rousing marches complete the picture: Meyerbeer’s swaggering Coronation March from Le Prophete, and Herbert Brewer’s Marche Heroique, heard at the wedding of the Earl and Countess of Wessex.
